Short answer: There is no universal red-light session length. The model's output, distance, wavelength, area, frequency, and intended use determine exposure. Follow the exact manual rather than a generic timer.
The earlier guide published generic planning ranges. Those numbers could not be defended across consumer panels with different output and geometry, so they have been removed.
What determines session length

Why time alone is misleading
A simplified light-dose calculation multiplies irradiance by time, but it is not a home prescription. Consumer irradiance may be measured under different conditions and can vary across a panel. Do not calculate a medical dose from an unattributed marketing number.
Setup checklist
- Read the exact manual for distance, time, frequency, eye protection, contraindications, and skin-contact rules.
- Keep position and body area repeatable; change no more than one exposure variable at a time.
- Do not double a later session after missing one or extend exposure because the light feels gentle.
- Stop for pain, persistent redness, irritation, headache, dizziness, eye discomfort, or unexpected heat.
Ask a qualified healthcare professional about photosensitivity disorders, relevant eye or skin conditions, active cancer concerns, pregnancy-related questions, or medications and topicals that increase light sensitivity.
Evidence and limits
Photobiomodulation outcomes are condition- and dose-specific, and higher-quality laser studies do not automatically establish protocols for consumer LED panels.
